O projektu

likovnog i verbalnog teksta u multimodalnim publikacijama (slikovnica, ilustrirana knjiga,
strip); te kroz druge vrste multimodalnih diskursa, osobito one generirane suvremenim
medijima i audiovizualnim, najčešće digitalnim formatima (videopoezija, videoart,
videoigre, digitalna slikovnica).

Najviše će se istraživati hrvatska umjetnička produkcija –
dominantno suvremena postmoderna ostvarenja, no uključit će se i starija,
kulturne translacije i pratećih procesa diseminacije. Dosadašnje će se spoznaje o procesima
transmedijacije − raznorodno prisutne u našoj književnoj i filmskoj znanosti, kao i
znanosti o umjetnosti – povezati i isprofilirati u zajedničkom kontekstu opisivanja i
tumačenja funkcioniranja multimodalnih diskursa, ali i produbiti i nadograditi analitičkim
sagledavanjima konkretnih primjera specifične produkcije namijenjene mladim
recipijentima.

Cljevi projekta

Glavni cilj projekta jest znanstveno opisati poetičke i kontekstualne odrednice
multimodalnih umjetničkih diskursa namijenjenih mladim recipijentima, osobito one koje
omogućuju specifične intermedijske ili transmedijske suodnose različitih umjetničkih
jezika.
zajednička slika kao temeljni strukturalni i komunikacijski element čija ekspanzija
korespondira s prodorom postmoderne kulture te osobito s razvojem interneta i digitalnih
medija. Istraživanja će se odvijati u tri tematska okvira:

a) istraživanja specifičnih suodnosa dječje književnosti i dječjeg filma (uključujući i
područje književnosti/filma za mlade, tzv. tinejdžerske književnosti/filma)
b) istraživanja likovno-verbalnih suodnosa u okviru književno-slikovnih publikacija
kakve su slikovnica, ilustrirana knjiga i strip
c) istraživanja audiovizualnih formata u mediju videa (videopoezija, videoart,
videoigre), kao i digitalne književnosti (digitalna slikovnica, interaktivna priča).

Teorijska i arhivska istraživanja poetičkih (tematskih, narativno-stilskih, strukturnih,
idejnih) i kontekstualnih (književnopovijesnih, recepcijskih, odgojno-obrazovnih,
razvijeniji i prisutniji, a neki i sve popularniji. Nadalje, istraživanja konkretnih primjera
suvremenih multimodalnih diskursa pridonijet će novim spoznajama o pojedinačnim
djelima, autorskim poetikama, umjetničkim pristupima i trendovima.
dječjih/tinejdžerskih filmova, baza dječjeg/tinejdžerskog digitalno dostupnog stripa i baza
digitalne slikovnice. Također, projekt će doprinijeti i širenju spoznaja o funkcioniranju
multimodalnih diskursa i njihovim potencijalima u odgoju i obrazovanju (osobito kroz
profilaciju izbornog kolegija o videopoeziji) među studentima učiteljskog studija i studija
ranog odgoja i obrazovanja, a popularizacijskim aktivnostima i u široj javnosti.

Summary

The project focuses on multimodal artistic discourses intended for children and young adults. The research examines the interrelationship of literary, visual, and cinematic languages, with particular emphasis on processes of transmediation realised through various forms of contact, interference, and transformation: through adaptations and appropriations of literary works into film (films for children and/or young adults), as well as in the reverse direction, through the creation of literary works based on films; through the artistic synthesis of visual and verbal texts in multimodal publications (picturebooks, illustrated books, and comics); and through other forms of multimodal discourse, particularly those generated by contemporary media and audiovisual, most often digital, formats (videopoetry, video art, video games, and digital picturebooks).

The primary focus of the project will be Croatian artistic production, particularly contemporary postmodern works. However, the research will also encompass earlier twentieth-century works, including Croatian children’s and young adult feature films from the Yugoslav period that were created through the adaptation of literary source texts. The research will draw on insights from adaptation theory, discourse theory (especially intermedial and transmedial discourse theory), contemporary genre theory, and deconstructive approaches to intermedial and cultural translation and the related processes of dissemination. Existing scholarship on transmediation, currently dispersed across literary studies, film studies, and art studies, will be brought together and developed within a shared framework for describing and interpreting the functioning of multimodal discourses. At the same time, these theoretical perspectives will be expanded and refined through analyses of specific examples drawn from artistic production aimed at young audiences.

Project goals

The main objective of the project is to provide a scholarly description of the poetic and contextual characteristics of multimodal artistic discourses intended for young audiences, with particular emphasis on those features that enable specific intermedial and transmedial relationships between different artistic languages. The research will examine various forms of interaction between literature, visual art, and film, united by the image as a fundamental structural and communicative element whose growing prominence corresponds with the rise of postmodern culture and, in particular, with the development of the internet and digital media.

The research will be organised around three thematic areas:

a) the study of specific relationships between children’s literature and children’s film, including literature and film for young adults (so-called teenage literature and film);

b) the study of visual-verbal relationships within literary-visual publications such as picturebooks, illustrated books, and comics;

c) the study of audiovisual formats in the medium of video (videopoetry, video art, video games), as well as forms of digital literature (digital picturebooks and interactive narratives).

Theoretical and archival research into the poetic (thematic, narrative-stylistic, structural, and ideological) and contextual (literary-historical, reception-related, educational, and broader social) characteristics of intermedial and transmedial discourses will generate new scholarly insights essential for their description and interpretation. This is particularly important in the contemporary cultural context, as such artistic forms are becoming increasingly developed, widespread, and, in some cases, increasingly popular.

Furthermore, analyses of specific examples of contemporary multimodal discourses will contribute to new understandings of individual works, authorial poetics, artistic approaches, and broader cultural trends. As part of the project, such works within Croatian children’s and young adult culture will also be systematically documented through the creation of three digital databases (repositories), which will be continuously updated with new information:

  • a database of children’s and young adult films;
  • a database of digitally available children’s and young adult comics;
  • a database of digital picturebooks.

The project will also contribute to a broader understanding of the functioning of multimodal discourses and their educational potential, particularly among students in teacher education and early childhood education programmes, including through the development of an elective course on videopoetry. In addition, the project will seek to disseminate its findings to a wider public through various outreach and public-engagement activities.
